Pirnmill – Your Village, Your Community – September 2024

Update from the Village Association trustees:

Village Hall

Our Village Hall new roof is in place and hopefully this will better protect the fabric of the building. The accessible entrance for the rear of the building has been started and we’ll keep you informed of the progress on this. There are other jobs needed about the hall and volunteers are needed at times so please look out for requests for help. Any time given, however short, helps the Village. We are keen to increase the usage of the hall and will soon be sending out a survey to see what events residents would like to see staged there.

Lochranza Whist Drive. Ethne Cumming is looking to re-establish the Whist Drive in Lochranza over the winter. The plan is for this to take place on alternate Wednesdays between 2pm and 4pm in the Village Hall. Anybody interested should call Ethne on 830302.

Looking further ahead

Look out for notices for this year’s Bonfire which will take place (weather permitting) on Tuesday 5th November. Volunteers are needed to make this a success so please consider giving a bit of your time on the day. Let any Trustee know if you can help. A charity coffee morning is planned in the coming months. Bakers will be needed. Date to be confirmed.

Forms for the 50/50 draw and Village Association subscriptions will be sent out soon, in readiness for the New Year. It is planned that future draws for the 50/50 will be done at the monthly Pop up Pubs so make sure you enter the draw.

Village Hall dates for your diary:

Pop up Pub. The usual monthly pub will take place on Saturday 28th September. 7pm start with the usual blether, quiz, pool and darts.

Zero Waste Cafe: The next Eco-Savvy café will be on Monday 23rd September 12-2pm. Please note this is on the Monday as opposed to the usual Tuesday, hoping to fill the gap as the Lighthouse is closed on a Monday. If this proves popular it may remain a Monday event. Come along for soup, coffee and cake

An Open Music Session will be held in the Hall on Saturday 5th October. Hosted by Carol and Mark Harwood, this will include musicians from all over the island. Come along, support this event and don’t forget to BYOB.

Pirnmill Food Share: available Monday evenings, fortnightly, in partnership with Eco Savvy, next one  Monday 30th September. Food generally available from approximately 8.50pm.

Don’t forget the other weekly activities at the Village Hall; Craft group on Tuesday afternoons, Darts on Thursday evenings and Table Tennis on Friday evenings. More details from Greg on 850221. Also the Community Garden Volunteers meet each Sunday morning at 11am. All welcome.

As always, minutes of the Association Trustees’ meetings are held in the village shop, for anyone wishing to view them. Trustees can be contacted for any community matters. If anyone wishes not to receive these messages, please let Greg know so you can be removed from the address list.
